South Bend Lions is launching a U-18 girls soccer program for 2021, providing the opportunity to develop in an elite, competitive setting, while opening pathways to advance in the game.
Two separate tryouts for the program will take place on November 8th (4PM until 5:30PM) and 9th (5PM until 6:15PM) at the South Bend Kroc Center, followed by sports performance training and assessments in December before the winter training block begins in January.
Throughout the program, the girls will have access to the outstanding facilities at Beacon Sports Performance and Bethel University campus, with sessions delivered through expert coaching and individualized mentorship to help realize potential.
To ensure the program best supplements the progress being made in the girls’ club environments, the overall program will focus more heavily on the sports performance side, enhancing skills on and off the ball with tailored developmental plans and strength and conditioning. The winter schedule will also avoid potential conflicts with ECNLS and other academy programs.
Technical director Thiago Pinto said: “This is something that we have been working on for a while, and we are excited to be taking this opportunity to expand in girls’ soccer.
“The quality of women’s soccer is constantly growing, along with the demand for elite development for girls. We wanted to use South Bend Lions as a platform for that.
“Over time, we would hope to grow this program into something bigger, so announcing it within 12 months of founding the club is a significant step. It’s also something that the club and the city can be proud about.”
Training sessions will also run in accordance with the latest health and safety guidelines to help contain the spread of COVID-19.
