Leading local practices provide boost for players’ medical coverage
ahead of the 2021 USL League Two season.
South Bend, IN (February 18, 2021) — South Bend Lions has teamed up with South Bend Orthopaedics (SBO) to provide orthopedic medical care for players during the 2021 USL League Two season and beyond, and Family Medicine of South Bend will be the club’s sports medicine provider.
Established in 1947, SBO has built a reputation as the leading orthopedic practice in the city and the surrounding area, with specialist experience in treating athletic injuries and supporting rehabilitation.
SBO already has a long and successful relationship with the University of Notre Dame athletic teams spanning more than 70 years and has practices in Mishawaka, La Porte, Plymouth, and Elkhart, as well as South Bend.
The agreement with South Bend Lions will run for three years initially, providing high-quality medical services for players around practice sessions and on game days.
Family Medicine of South Bend is a multi-specialty clinic that has been caring for patients in Michiana for more than 30 years. Dr Kari Sears, who practices full-spectrum family medicine with a special focus on the care of athletes and musculoskeletal injuries, will be the lead physician, supported by two of her partners.
Monika Scott, Chief Progress Officer, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with South Bend Orthopaedics and Family Medicine of South Bend. They will provide us with excellent coverage and complementary partnerships like this provides reassurance for players that they will be in the best possible hands in the event of any injuries.
“Both practices understanding of our requirements and expectations around player welfare was something that was established quickly in conversations last year when we began discussing our needs. We are pleased to welcome them both on board as official partners and look forward to working together as the club grows.”
Dr AJ Mencias, President of South Bend Orthopaedics and active team physician for the University of Notre Dame, said: “The Lions coming to South Bend is a great opportunity for our community. SBO is proud to continue our promise of providing excellent care to the surrounding area as well as our local athletes.
“Our level of dedication to the community and local sports teams is a key pillar to our organization.”
